Connection
At intermission we talked about God.
Her sad eyes spoke years of yearning.
A huge sigh.
She said,
"I try to feel
that God loves me,
but He seems closed,
as if I'm on the outside.
Maybe it's me.
Maybe I just can't get it."
I asked,
"Remember how moving it was
in the first act,
when the mother sang that song
to comfort her little boy?"
She said,
"Oh, yes! That was incredible!
So warm and tender,
yet so strong.
I hope no one was looking at me,
because I was crying."
I said,
"That was God.
Everyone felt that
Love was there in that moment.
It was undeniable, wasn't it?"
A pause.
Then such recognition
and relief
dawned in those eyes!
Love had made the connection.
A soft, steady smile.
