Faith in God's power

Early last spring, when I was doing a lot of yardwork, I was bitten by a number of insects. One bite caused my right leg above the ankle to swell and become inflamed and painful. Later that night, the other bites began to itch quite a lot.

Then I recalled this from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "All of God's creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible" (p. 514). This helped me to realize that I could not be hurt by an insect or any other creature.

The next day, however, my ankle was so swollen that I could hardly get my sock on. I prayed some more. I found another passage that was helpful: "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation" (p. 393). The 91st Psalm also had this helpful assurance: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence."
