The day the load was

I was working as the librarian for a private elementary school. My salary was paid over the nine months of the school term. I also participated in the summer school program. This schedule left the month of August open.

My husband was self-employed. Several projects had come to a successful conclusion that spring, and he'd lined up a number of new clients to begin in the fall. We drew on our savings for those interim months, but realized that in August neither of us would be earning any income. We'd be unable to pay our bills.

I was frustrated, because I couldn't think of any job that would last for only one month. But I found just the inspiration I needed to help me through this period. It was from this sentence, written by Mary Baker Eddy: "Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painfulsense of, or belief in, that which Life is not" (Science and Health, p. 495). I knew that I could calmly trust in God's care for me and for everyone because of the relationship we all have with God. We are His sons and daughters.
