Protection from drowning
One morning during a vacation in Perth, Australia, I read the following: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man" (Science and Health, p. 393). These words were soon to be my lifesaver.
We had just arrived, and I was eager to find my way to the beach. I borrowed my sister-in-law's car and set off on my own. It was almost lunchtime, and I just wanted to see the ocean, even though I knew that there wouldn't be time for a swim. But when I got there, the temptation to have a quick dip was irresistible. I plunged into the cool water and began to bodysurf only a few feet from the water's edge.
Suddenly a big wave lifted me up and dumped me on my head. I was momentarily stunned and felt as if I couldn't stand up. I had no strength, and thought that all I could do was to fall back into the undertow.
