She credits her reading the Sentinel with this proof of God's presence and protecting power.
I just wanted to thank you for providing "Spiritual progress through the new millennium" (March 6). As a first generation immigrant, whose family fled from its homeland due to religious persecution, and as a survivor of race riots during the tumultuous integration of public schools in New York City, I found that this article offered a balsamic gift—that of "praying—even for anonymous others." I was deeply moved.

My daughter Susanna is a sophomore in college. She and a friend were driving up to ski, and the weather was bad. She had brought some magazines to read on the drive up but noticed the mail she had put on the back seat earlier in the week. She found her copy of the February 28 Sentinel and read aloud a lot of the ideas to the driver. She had just about finished reading the whole magazine, when all of a sudden the car started spinning in complete circles. It spun around three times, and all the time Susanna was so clear in knowing they were the children of God. The car rammed up a snow bank in the median and stopped. Both my daughter and her friend had lowered their heads toward the center and therfore were protected from going into the dashboard or window. The first car to come by was driven by a nurse, but no medical attention was needed. She offered to call a tow truck to get the car back on the road. The second person to stop had a shovel and just gave it to them and left! The kids were able to free the car and be on their way for a beautiful day of skiing. My daughter said that not for one minute was she frightened, nor did her heart race, or stop—just that she was at peace during the whole experience. She credits her reading the Sentinel with this proof of God's presence and protecting power. My deep and sincere gratitude to the Sentinel!
