Childbirth proceeds painlessly

My most cherished healing in Christian Science was the one I had when I gave birth to one of our children some years ago.

I had gladly accepted the necessity of doing thorough preparatory work before the birth, and this preparation was prayer and spiritual study. Science and Health encouraged me to study obstetrics as explained in Christian Science. I therefore became very familiar with this passage: "To attend properly the birth of the new child, or divine idea, you should so detach mortal thought from its material conceptions, that the birth will be natural and safe. Though gathering new energy, this idea cannot injure its useful surroundings in the travail of spiritual birth. A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463). This gave me a clearer and higher understanding of giving birth.

The nine-month waiting period was a time for cherishing divine Love, God, which made this time full with patience, joyful expectation, and happy moments of prayer. It was also a time of pondering beautiful truths such as this: "Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must 'have her perfect work'" (p. 454).
