INNER STRENGTH TO REJECT SENSUALITY
The question "Why is it important not to be sensual?" is not an easy one. A lot of people would say it's like asking, "Why is it important not to be me? My senses, my physical senses, anyway, tell me that I'm sensual." In fact, we're educated almost every day to think from a sensual standpoint. The television shows we watch, the movies we see, what we hear on the radio, what we read in newspapers, magazines, and even what some of our friends may be saying—all of this can be part of an education into the view, at least to some extent, that we surely are sensual.
And yet, there's a different perspective.
There's a thread all the way through the Bible that says, "Wait a minute. You are not sensual. You are spiritual." That thread tells us that we are not rooted in what the physical senses say but that we have spiritual sense. The Bible really brings to light the fact that our being is rooted in Spirit, in God.
