Illness quickly healed

Over the years I have had a number of healings through prayer—healings of childhood diseases, injuries, and colds to name a few—but I have recently come to appreciate one in particular that occurred several years ago. I had not been feeling particularly well for several days when I woke in the middle of the night feeling very ill—nauseated, feverish, and so on. I got up and went into the bathroom, closing the door so that I would not disturb my husband, although I later learned that he woke at the same time and began praying for me.

I realized that I needed to decide whether I would accept the physical evidence claiming that I was sick or would rely on Christian Science treatment to heal me. It was really not such a difficult decision—sickness or health—as I certainly did not want to continue feeling so ill for a moment longer.

I began praying for myself by acknowledging what I knew to be true of God and His creation. I affirmed that God is the only creator, and that He is wholly spiritual, good, and omnipotent. It followed that as His creation, I must also be spiritual, not made of bones, muscle, or anything material. God is good and does not permit anything to harm His children—not sickness, not contagion, not accidents.
