Trust in God restores health and strength

Several years ago I came down with symptoms of what at first seemed to be a cold. At that time, we were preparing to embark on a ten-day vacation. I spent most of my vacation in bed, and by the time we returned home, the situation appeared to be quite serious. I was experiencing a great deal of pain, and could walk only a few yards before sinking into a chair or bed. With the exception of continuing to attend church services regularly, I was confined to my home.

As the weeks dragged on, I became very discouraged and extremely fearful. A Christian Science practitioner was praying for me. She encouraged me to remain steadfast in knowing that Christian Science heals. Then, at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, a woman repeated these verses from Proverbs: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (3:5, 6). Although I was familiar with this passage, hearing it that evening was like having a light turned on in a dark room. I said to myself, Of course! I don't need to do anything more. God is All, and He has already done everything perfectly.

I walked out of church that evening feeling as though a huge burden had been lifted, even though the physical symptoms were still there. Within the next few days, they completely disappeared, and one glorious summer morning that week, I took my dog for a fairly strenuous walk, rejoicing and thanking God for healing, health, freedom, joy, and for His constant and perfect care.
