Sore throat and cough quickly cured

My husband and I had just returned from supper at a local restaurant, when I commented that my throat hurt. I took the suggestion that I might be getting a cold lightly, casually rejecting it, but not making any particular effort to pray. Instead I settled in on the couch to watch a two-hour movie on television. By the time I went to bed, after midnight, my throat hurt very badly.

As I lay there in the dark, my thoughts began to focus on what I should be thinking. This doesn't need to be, I realized. At first I was tempted to get up and drink or eat something to soothe my throat. But I realized that wouldn't help, because it would be relying on matter to fix what was wrong with matter. I then began to pray to understand that there is no sensation in matter. I turned to what I knew was really true. I had no doubts that this could be healed, now, by turning to God. I could stop fearing that it would get worse.

I prayed also with "the scientific statement of being" (see Science and Health, p. 468), and repeated many of the quotations about my spiritual being that I had gathered over my fifty years of studying Christian Science. Finally my thoughts were flooded with positive, spiritual ideas, and I fell asleep, confident that I would be healed.
