Harassment and a breathing difficulty overcome

While I was serving in Vietnam in the United States Air Force, fellow soldiers consistently harassed me for not drinking alcoholic beverages. On several occasions this resulted in fights. Once I was held down and had alcohol forced down my throat. This Bible passage was especially helpful to me in changing the situation: "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways" (Ps. 91:11). I affirmed each day that angels were around me and would protect me. I became friends with an airman who admired my stand against drinking. He proved to be the friend I needed to help deliver me from the men attempting to force me to drink. One night the men were again trying to make me drink, and he firmly told them that if I did not want to drink, I did not have to. If they did not like it, they would have to answer to him. He was a very big, strong man. The soldiers never bothered me again.

Soon he stopped drinking himself and started attending Christian Science services with me.
