Abscessed teeth restored to soundness
I am very new to Christian Science, even though my mom has been an active and devout Scientist for over twenty years and was the strong influence that led to my joining The Mother Church in 1995. I have experienced several healings, both physical and emotional, but none has had such an immediate and reassuring effect on me as this one.
Spring break was approaching for my ninth-grade son Michael, and we were planning on driving from Texas to Colorado for a week of skiing. Also included in this trip were my older daughter Carrie Ann and Michael's friend Ryan. Two days before we were to leave I noticed a tooth that was loose and might need to be attended to before we left town. I was also aware of substantial swelling beneath both of my eyes in the upper cheek area. My gums were tender and there was some pain. But I was so busy that I gave it little attention until my visit to the dentist. He showed me the X-rays and pointed out the perceived problem, two very bad abscesses. He was adamant about my seeing an oral surgeon immediately and urged me not even to consider taking a trip until I had the two root canal procedures done.
As I left the dentist's office, the pain became more intense—with my thoughts and concerns feeding the fuel of fear. I went back to my office, took a deep breath, called a Christian Science practitioner, and explained the situation. He spoke with much assurance, and immediately a real calm came over me. I hung up and repeated in thought his assurance that I am spiritual. The fear was completely gone. I opened my Full Text Edition of the Christian Science Quarterly to that week's Bible Lesson—the subject was "Man"—and started reading it again. I remember so clearly my immediate thoughts. I said quietly, but strongly, to myself, I choose not to accept this belief. I refuse to take this in as reality. I am the perfect image and likeness of God. Then I started thinking about how we had planned and were all looking forward to a wonderful trip and the special time I was to have with my beautiful children and their friend.
