"Did that thought come from God?"
Lexi was just about the happiest little girl around. She loved everything—going to Sunday School, selling Girl Scout cookies, and especially playing with her new stuffed animal Tigger, the fun-loving character from Winnie-the-Pooh. Most of all, she loved her family so much that she would shower them with hugs and kisses throughout the day.
One night while Lexi was waiting for her mother to tuck her in, she had a very sad thought that made her feel afraid. When her mother came to her room, Lexi wrapped her arms tightly around her and said, "I never want to have to leave you. I don't want you to ever go away."
Lexi's mother knew right away that the thought that was making Lexi sad wasn't from God. She reminded Lexi about the "important question." Lexi had been learning to ask a very important question regarding thoughts. This question is, "Did that thought come from God?" Science and Health asks the question this way: "Are thoughts divine or human? That is the important question" (p. 462).
