God's economy: no risks no downturns

THE OTHER NIGHT , I was watching a news program on the devastation brought by hurricane Andrew, which leveled areas of Homestead, Florida, a few years ago. It showed a man in his retirement years, burdened with sorrow over the loss of all of his possessions, including his house. Suddenly, during the interview, he looked up and declared, with a rejuvenated sense of life, "Well, we'll just start over again."

I was struck by his courage and willingness to deal vigorously with the circumstances at hand. It was apparent that he was drawing on inner resources that were strengthening his resolve and challenging the economic hardship imposed on him. One might ask, "Where does this resilience come from? Is it something that only some possess?"

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, speaking of God's infinite power, writes, "Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 60).
