Life cycles without suffering

Have you ever stopped to think about the number of cycles and stages there seem to be? We hear about the terrible twos, puberty, menstrual cycles, midlife, retirement, and so forth. Are we at the mercy of these cycles? Not according to the Science of Christ.

Science and Health refers to cycles in a completely different light: "Throughout the infinite cycles of eternal existence, Spirit and matter neither concur in man nor in the universe" (p. 319). God is Spirit, all good; therefore the cycles in His kingdom are spiritual and can bring only an unfoldment of good. These cycles include a constantly progressive manifestation of God's love, care, health, wisdom, intelligence, dominion, purpose, and usefulness. The "infinite cycles of eternal existence" cannot include any law that would diminish or impair any of the spiritual qualities that belong to God's child—you and me. Not one of His ideas becomes less valuable, less whole. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Science and Health explains, "Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love" (p.66).

A few years ago I started having problems with my menstrual cycle. At first, I ignored the problem. Sometimes when I thought about it, I would pray a little, but there didn't seem to be any change in the situation. Then I decided to treat the problem by praying and correcting the general beliefs I might have accepted regarding womanhood, specifically those surrounding menstrual cycles. I held to my true identity as God's spiritual idea, complete and whole, not subject to birth, material development, decay, or death. I prayed to understand that God is my Life and that as His reflection, I have complete dominion over any negative cycles connected with a fleshly concept of life. Within just two or three months I was totally healed of suffering as a result of a so-called disrupted menstrual cycle. There has been no recurrence of this problem.
