Some time ago, I woke in the middle of the night with severe pain in my stomach. After a few minutes it was clear that the situation was serious. Although I was not able to call a Christian Science practitioner myself, my wife, who was up with me, called one and asked for treatment for me. As I prayed also, I felt it was important to stand erect and walk around as well as I could.

A quick healing of sudden stomach pain.

Several ideas that my wife relayed to me from the practitioner were particularly helpful. He referred to Psalm 105: "Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm" (verse 15). This helped me realize that as God's idea I am His anointed and cannot be touched by anything but His goodness, care, and love. The practitioner also pointed out that God heals through love and that God teaches through love. He also cited a passage from Science and Health: "The eternal Truth destroys what mortals seem to have learned from error, and man's real existence as a child of God comes to light" (pp. 288-289). This helped clarify to me that disease is never real, but is a false belief to be cast out. Another passage from Science and Health also held an important insight for me: "The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect" (p. 300).

During this time I was very grateful for my wife's strong, prayerful support. Other concepts that helped me as I prayed included the fact that Truth outweighs error; that Truth is the only power and presence; that Christ is right with me, governing me every minute; that there is no cause in matter; that there is just one God, and God includes His perfect idea, man. I was actively and persistently praying to understand truth and reject error.

After an hour or so, the pain subsided, and within a few hours I was completely free. This was another clear example to me—I've seen many others—of effective Christian Science treatment.
