Persisting during trials

"I 'd just as soon not go through any more trials, thank you, God. I'd prefer my path to the kingdom of heaven to be smooth and unobstructed if You don't mind." That was my initial reaction to this sentence from Science and Health: "Trials are proofs of God's care" (p. 66).

Yet the Bible is replete with examples of individuals who went through trials and thus proved for themselves and others just how steadfast and omnipotent God's care actually is. David, for example, had to fight the warrior giant, Goliath, and other battles before he could become king of Israel. His trust in God's care is well expressed in this psalm: "Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth" (26:2, 3).

Christ Jesus proved that man is the offspring of God, who fills all space and constitutes all true being. Thus the real man—and that includes you and me—is the spiritual expression of this all-knowing God, or Mind. Hence we reflect the spiritual substance and quality of our loving Parent, the one Father-Mother God.
