The first time I entered a Christian Science church I was eleven...
The first time I entered a Christian Science church I was eleven years old and suffering from a whitlow. Years later, when my mother told me of this, she said that I had not slept for two nights because of the pain of the infected finger. When she saw there was going to be another such night, she said, "Let's go to this church where I have heard they do healing." We went to our first Christian Science testimony meeting.
I can remember going in and sitting at the window end of a row of seats with my mother sitting beside me. My hand was throbbing painfully. Next thing I knew my mother was touching me gently saying it was time to go home as the meeting was over. I had been asleep all through the hour, but my hand was better —the throbbing had gone. I was home and back asleep in half an hour. My hand was soon completely well. We had found a healing church.
After I married, as my husband did not approve of church of any kind, I did not go to church regularly and only attended very occasionally when I could, to please my mother.
