"Only as we rise above all material sensuousness and sin, can we reach the heaven-born aspiration and spiritual consciousness, which is indicated in the Lord's Prayer and which instantaneously heals the sick" (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 16). Every time I read this passage, the following healing comes freshly to mind.
Noises of stress wakened me in the middle of the night. Quickly I ran to our five-year-old son and found him burning with fever. He appeared delirious. The fear was overwhelming as I knelt by his bed. At first my thoughts rushed around looking for something to do physically, but this was only for a second or two, as I realized that my son needed the tangible help that prayer gives.
My son and I talked then about a prayer my son had made up one night about a year before:
