Wake up and watch

One morning I woke up with a strong resolution to be a better thinker and doer! I had not been feeling very worthwhile or necessary, nor did I feel I was doing the work God had for me to do. I had just retired from teaching, and there seemed to be a void in my life. Now I realized that I should be waking up with joy and reflecting it all day long.

A Bible verse came to thought: "Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light" (Eph. 5:14). The light of Christ would enable me to watch every thought that came to my notice. If the thought honored God, I would honor it; if not, I would drop it completely.

For example, I realized that I usually left church immediately after the services and didn't speak to anyone unless he or she spoke to me first. It occurred to me that this was not reflecting God, divine Love. So I began to be more outgoing and genuinely caring.
