Christ Jesus said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31, 32). These words have certainly proved true in my experience over many years as a Christian Scientist. During the winter of 1995 I slipped on a patch of ice and, not being able to break the fall in any way, fell full force on the end of my spine. Also the back of my head hit the pavement heavily. The pain was intense. I was aware that someone was approaching and asking if I was all right. I was able to get to my feet and assure him that I was.

I was on my way to visit a relative in the hospital, and as I moved towards the entrance, all I could think of was "God is All, and therefore there is no matter." I just stuck to this fact, feeling sure it would correct the false evidence of an accident. I was grateful to have a quiet visit with my loved one, as there was time for me to pray.

Even though sitting, moving, and walking seemed very difficult, I refused to listen to the physical senses and instead stayed in thought very close to God. Because we lived some distance from the hospital, I was staying for rest and study at a Christian Science House (a nursing facility for Christian Scientists) nearby. When I returned to the House later that evening, I was so grateful to be in this sanctuary where I could work out this healing alone with God. Although no one knew of this particular problem, I felt enveloped in Love's care.
