The political conventions being held in the United States this month...
The political conventions being held in the United States this month are just two more evidences of a year in which elections and governmental change have been occurring around the world. If there ever was a year when the very concept of "government" itself needs our prayers, this could well be it!
Sometimes, however, the argument comes that one individual's vote—or even one individual's prayer—doesn't matter. The Bible presents a different view. It tells vividly of situations where one person's prayer and obedience to God totally reversed conditions. Consider David and his opponent, Goliath. Or consider Nehemiah, who stood up to his enemies in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. There are many more individuals whose obedience to God changed the history of their times—in small or great ways. Like these individuals, we—through our prayers for government—can and will make a difference.
