Dear Sentinel
From children and teenagers
Dear Sentinel,
A year or so ago I returned home from school to find that my dog had gotten loose earlier in the day. I immediately set out around my neighborhood looking for her. My first thoughts were of annoyance and anger that I had to go find her; but after about half an hour of searching I became fearful, too.
I began to sing Hymn 139—"I walk with Love along the way ..." (Christian Science Hymnal). The lines, "No more I suffer cruel fear, / I feel God's presence with me here ..." were especially helpful. I knew I had to eliminate fear first in order to see clearly the infinite ever-presence of God, and His love and protection for all creatures. It helped me to realize that no matter where I was or where my dog was, we were both in God's care and nothing could harm us.
