Being free from racial discrimination

From the start of the Star Trek series on television, the crew of the Starship Enterprise reflected a friendly ethnic and gender mix. It was a utopian vision of racial harmony, which grew to include alien species. This series can be singled out as highlighting a very significant message to the world—proof of the wonderful harmony that equal opportunity and respect can bring.

The concept of affirmative action developed in North America as a result of the civil rights movement in the 1960s. This program was adopted in South Africa after the collapse of apartheid. The reasoning behind this action was to give equal opportunity to the millions of black people who had suffered at the hands of unjust, discriminatory laws. But this action, coursing throughout our transitional, democratic government, has created bitterness and accusations of reverse discrimination.

These concerns show that we can't really rely on a human system alone to succeed in removing racial discrimination from the workplace and to make corporations provide equal opportunity. We must realize the spiritual truth that is the basis for true justice and equality. And the only way to do this is to recognize a higher legislation—God's law.
