"Our spiritual health"

Freelance writer Alison Chabonais, of Florida, believes that in this millennial decade Americans' individual and collective search for life's meaning and purpose is accelerating. The search, she observes, is on in people's homes, in their places of worship, and in various activities designed to change their lives for the better.

"We see evidence of this quest," she says, "in a growing population of Floridians eager to exchange outmoded ways of thinking for new adventures in living life to the fullest. And we hear echoes of this quest in the media, and in the political, social, and medical arenas."

Ms. Chabonais recently ventured into her community to talk with members of the clergy and to sample their perspective on these interesting times. They included the Reverend Sandra Lockey, of Unity Church of Bonita Springs; Dr. Josiah Bartlett, of The Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers; the Reverend Dr. Bruce Merton, of Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church; Father Edward Przygocki, of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; and Rabbi Benjamin Sendrow, of Temple Judea, Fort Myers.
