I experienced a wonderful healing that taught me a great deal about God's supreme love and eternal care for me. I am overcome with gratitude for my newfound freedom, and wish to share this healing, which has had a profound impact on my life.
In high school, I was very active in sports—particularly basketball and track, until I developed a severe case of shinsplints during my sophomore year. I chose to deal with the situation by ignoring it and hoping it would go away. By my junior year, the condition had worsened to the point that I was forced to drop all strenuous activities. I was not even able to walk without pain. For three years I avoided active sports in the hope that the condition would simply disappear.
During this time, I developed an almost unbearable fear of running or jumping—of anything that might bring back the shinsplints. This fear of being active in sports changed when I transferred to a university in the fall of 1994 and joined the crew team. I remember asking my coach if rowing would irritate my shins. She responded by telling me that, aside from rowing, we would be lifting weights, running stadium steps, and running long distances, commenting that if I could do that, then I'd be fine.
