Last summer, my sister and I took a cooking class at summer school. While I was stirring some cooking meat and talking to my friend Angela, I accidentally rested my arm on the pan and burned my arm. My sister came over to ask if I was OK. Because my arm was burned and hurt a lot, we went to tell the teacher. The teacher gave me some ice to put on the burn but it didn't really help. A few minutes later, school was over and I went home.

When I told my mom what had happened, she gave me a big hug. She read me a children's story from the Sentinel. Because my arm didn't look very good and it still hurt, she called my dad at work and asked him to pray with us.

My dad told me the story of three men in the Bible—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (see Dan. 2:49—3:30). The king wanted them to bow down and worship a golden statue. The men knew that what the king was demanding was wrong and that they were supposed to worship God. Because they would not obey the king, the king had them thrown into a fiery furnace. My dad told me that because the three men didn't really do anything wrong according to God, He protected them from the fire and they weren't burned. My dad told me that because God loved me, He wouldn't let any fire hurt me.
