In Science and Health we find this sentence in the answer to the question "What is man?" "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness" (p. 475). This is the absolute truth, and I would like to attest to it.
When I was in high school I had a wonderful healing that showed me what this message meant. I had studied for a final examination that involved extensive research and study. As time was approaching to take the exam, I felt as if I had a cloud in my thought. I was afraid I couldn't remember the material and would fail the exam.
My grandmother urged me to call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. During the telephone conversation with the practitioner, he asked me "Who or what is clouding your mind." When I was silent, he assured me that nothing was because nothing could. Then he explained that I am made in the image and likeness of God; that I am perfect, reflecting the one Mind, which is God. He then told me to turn to Hymn No. 51 in the Christian Science Hymnal and to think about what it was saying. I immediately did this. The second verse includes these lines: "The clouds of sense roll back, and show / The form divinely fair." There it was, the clouds of sense, or the clouds in my consciousness. But divine Mind rolls back the clouds—I saw that instantly. My consciousness reflects the one divine Mind.
