A QUESTIONS & ANSWERS EXCHANGE
This column is a place to explore questions with other readers and with the editorial staff of the Sentinel. The responses are offered not so much to close the question but to open possibilities for further prayer, exploration, and living of spiritual truth.
Q. I like the metaphysical part of Christian Science, but why does it have a religious part? I have never been comfortable with religion.—from an inquirer in Massachusetts
A. Do you mean things like dogma and pat answers? I don't care much for those, either. Religion is really so much more than that. It has to do with an inner dedication to truths that uplift thought, direct action, and transform character. It has to do with our deepest worship of God and with commitment. Often those individuals who have founded religious movements gave their lives for such commitment. It's too bad that the creative spark of faith sometimes gets buried under a ton of talk. It doesn't have to be that way, however.
