Prayer before voting
It was an election year, and I loved watching the political debates. I had a favorite party and candidates that I intended to vote for. But I also wanted to be fair, to hear every side, to consider the merits of each candidate, and to vote in the way I thought nearest right for all concerned.
As I followed the compaigning and listened to political analysis, I began to feel confused and unhappy. No party or candidate fully expressed my views. And in one important race, my preferred candidate was running behind in the polls to another who had ample personal appeal but proposed policies I disagreed with. If one candidate took a stand on any issue, it seemed that the other took the opposite, for no reason other than to oppose the first candidate. Since neither fully satisfied me, I wondered which one I could support.
I knew from experience that if I prayed for an answer, I would find it. That evening I was planning to attend the Wednesday testimony meeting at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
