Often when I pause to pray about some particular problem,...
Often when I pause to pray about some particular problem, memories of many healings fill my thought. One by one these assure me of the power of God's grace in any present circumstance. While nothing can lessen one's own responsibility to pray, I am especially grateful right now for the ability to ask for help when needed.
A healing of congestion in my eyes and nose occurred when I was in the final week of dress rehearsals for a musical comedy production. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. He told me that because joy is an attribute of God, I always had the right and the ability to express it. He said that, because my purpose and motive for performing in this production were actually to glorify God, and because God is All, only joy could be the result. Sickness is not an element of divine creation, and not a part of me. He agreed to pray with me.
Claiming my divine right to express genuine joy was truly fun, but before long it became obvious that I was feeling discouraged by the low morale of the cast. Few people thought the play could be a success in the time we had left to work on it. When I mentioned this to the practitioner, he said that all the hard work and sincere motivation of those involved could not be reversed or ruined, because God alone has power. I remember going back to practice after this conversation just certain that joy begins in God and can't be ruined.
