"In the beginning"—health

In contrast to the prominent and persistent media attention being given to the findings and perplexities of genetic research, ever since last December a particular statement in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy has been grabbing my attention. The statement was included in the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson on the subject "Christ Jesus" during Christmas week. It reads, "The time cometh when the spiritual origin of man, the divine Science which ushered Jesus into human presence, will be understood and demonstrated" (p. 325).

What struck me as I read this was the amazing fact that the divine Science Mrs. Eddy discovered in the Bible and explains in Science and Health is the very Science that "ushered Jesus into human presence" through his virgin birth. Divine Science has been around for a while! And this Science has enormous significance in regard to humanity's quest for health and its endeavor to break free of the heartbreaking limitations of human heredity. In proportion as divine Science is investigated and understood, its healing power can be, and is being, demonstrated. Reports of the healing of hereditary conditions through Christian Science come across my desk regularly. Just the other day, I reviewed an article manuscript that contained the author's account of her healing of a hereditary disease.

Divine Science has to do with man's divine heritage—"the spiritual origin of man." As the Scriptures say: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. ... And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness .... So God created man in his own image. ... And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:1, 26, 27, 31).
