Lessons from a still lake

Have you ever stood on the shore of a very still lake? If you have, you probably saw the sky, trees, clouds, and so forth mirrored in that lake. You saw their reflection in the water.

What does this have to do with you? The world tells you that you are mortal, a product of your parents, environment, education, and so on. But the Bible gives a different view of man and his origin. The book of Genesis states, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him" (1:27). God is Spirit, so your true identity is completely spiritual. Your identity is the image, or reflection, of God, so you are rightly defined by spiritual qualities, such as intelligence, love, joy, and goodness. These qualities are not dependent on where you live, your relatives, or schooling, because they're from God, and you reflect them permanently. You cannot reflect any quality that He does not possess.

God is Love, Principle, Truth, and Life, as well as Spirit. Therefore, you are loving, just, truthful, and active. God is all good, without a speck of evil, so, as His reflection, your being is all good too. It's characterized by health, peace, and purity—without illness or sin.
