A couple of years ago my husband and I stopped in a small restaurant with friends for a light supper. We had finished the meal before the waiter remembered he had not served all of the beverages, and he brought a cup of boiling-hot tea to the table. As I reached for a napkin, I knocked the cup into my lap, burning my skin badly.
Immediately I declared to myself that no accident could destroy the good we had experienced in the day's activities. As a child of God, I was completely protected from anything that was not an expression of His goodness; my joy was intact in this understanding.
Since everyone had finished eating, we left immediately, and on the short drive home I continued to declare silently that I was spiritual, and therefore perfect. As soon as our friends dropped us off where we were staying, I replaced my wet clothing with a loose nightgown, and immediately turned to the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
