While using a chain saw one day, I made deep cuts through four fingers of my hand. Another time, excitement over a new tool and inexperience in using it led to similar injuries. In both instances, I knew that if I chose to pray for healing, my first task was to understand accidents and injuries as actually false, and claim that wholeness and goodness and joy were given to me of God.

Both times I immediately covered the cuts and sought the help of prayer from my family. Christian Science nurses attended to the injuries, and I never had to look at them as I prayed. The nurses helped me in cleansing and bandaging the wounds properly. My wife helped me continue to do this, and we both appealed to the power of metaphysical truths, reaffirming that the healing that we saw taking place was grounded in spiritual understanding. I am so thankful for everyone's support—for their steadfast refusal to be alarmed by the injuries.

Together with the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner, we declared that there could never be a tear in the fabric of God's love. I am glad to report that I was, prayer, able to overcome any pain that arose during both incidents.
