True nourishment—or the chemistry of food
True nourishment comes from God, Spirit. Divine Truth and Love nurture man, whose actual being is spiritual, the image and likeness of God.
Ignorant of the fact that Spirit supplies all that man needs, mortals look to matter for all kinds of nourishment. We are urged to follow dietary laws and include certain foods and exclude others. We are shown the chemistry of food—the fat content, cholesterol, carbohydrates, proteins, fiber, vitamins, and calories—in hopes of finding the right combination for necessary nutrition.
As we look away from Spirit, the true source of good, to matter for nourishment, the results are often discouraging—imbalance, dissatisfaction, and disorder. Matter is a misconception of the substance of being; it is ignorance of man's unlimited, satisfied, spiritual substance. Matter cannot supply strength, vitality, and health, which are actually spiritual qualities, and which God, Truth, imparts to man.
