Watching the clock—or trusting God?

Like many people with busy schedules, my husband and I use our videocassette recorder to tape television programs we'd like to view at a more convenient time. One feature of the VCR we especially like is the fast forward button. This enables us to scan quickly over commercial interruptions that have been recorded along with the program, as well as parts of the program we don't care to see. We appreciate the way this allows us to have control over our viewing habits.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could control the time spent on all our activities in this same way? Then the stress and anxiety often associated with fast-paced living might be eliminated from our lives! Well, there is a way we can avoid stressful thoughts and their debilitating effects. This isn't done through any sort of psychological or physical manipulation, but through turning to our heavenly Father and trusting in His spiritual, harmonious government of man and the universe.

Do you think that turning to God for help in dealing with time pressure is asking too much? Not when we understand that our true nature, as God's offspring, is purely spiritual and under the government of God. As the sun has an unceasing "relationship" to each ray that emanates from it, so God forever governs the action of His offspring, man. God is unlimited, infinite Principle, the only Mind, eternally conscious of His spiritual creation. Man is forever expressing God's perfection and harmony as His reflection. An anxious, "stressed out" mortal is not this man, but a counterfeit of God's man. Through prayer that affirms the allness of God, and the perfection of man in His image and likeness, we are aligned with God's spiritual laws, which wisely discipline and govern our human experience.
