True communication
This week the Sentinel shares extracts from a speech delivered by Dutch theologian and broadcaster, Dr. Albert van den Heuvel, at the twenty-fifth annual conference of the North American Broadcast Section of the World Association for Christian Communication The next conference of the North American Broadcast Section of the World Association for Christian Communication is scheduled for November 27-December 1, 1995, in Miami Beach, Florida . held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In his keynote speech, Albert van den Heuvel spoke of some of the challenges facing religious broadcasters in this age of the electronic highway.
While readily acknowledging the advantages—especially to the community and to education—of the highway's interactive communication through telephone, computer, and television, Dr. van den Heuvel said he was concerned that there had not yet been enough discussion about content, access, possible manipulation, and probable social consequences.
