Sharing our proofs of God's power
Through deep study of the Bible and of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, individuals have learned to turn to God and have found healing in times of need. And they have helped to bring healing and comfort to others through sharing their experiences in testimonies recorded in the Christian Science periodicals and given during the Wednesday testimony meetings in Christian Science Churches.
Those who devote time to writing testimonies of healing or articles do so as a result of listening to and obeying the voice of Truth. Emphasizing the importance of bearing witness to Truth, our beloved Master and Way-shower, Christ Jesus, taught his disciples: "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:14—16).
Following our Master's teachings, Mrs. Eddy obediently listened to God and shared, through the publication of Science and Health, the revelation of divine Science. Later, she founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, which is "designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 17).
She faced numerous challenges in her work to present the Science of Christianity to the world. But she understood that error has no power over Truth; that error is impersonal, and no matter how much it would claim to battle with Truth, Truth is always victorious. By fully identifying her work with divine Principle, she dealt successfully with the beliefs of limitation and other obstacles that would have blocked the completion of her work. She had no doubt that her mission to deliver Christian Science to the world was divinely impelled and that nothing could overthrow the infinite law of God which was behind it.
Sometimes Christian Scientists have felt obstacles to giving a testimony at a Wednesday testimony meeting or writing either an article or a testimony for the Christian Science magazines or sharing a healing experience with others who are searching for spiritual healing. One young woman had a deep desire to share her healings in a testimony meeting but was always overcome with fear. She felt she was inexperienced and lacked the confidence to address the congregation. She decided, however, to pray about this challenge. In her prayer she realized that man is forever working under the guidance of his Maker and that it is the nature of man to express fully all the qualities of God. She knew that the purpose of her existence, as the perfect expression of Truth, was to bear witness to Truth. She affirmed, as her study of Christian Science had revealed, that man has no mind separate from God but reflects the wisdom and intelligence directly bestowed on him by God, divine Mind. Each of God's children possesses all the qualities and abilities derived from the divine Principle, Love. Science and Health, as part of the answer to the question "What is man?" describes man as "that which has no separate mind from God; that which has not a single quality underived from Deity; that which possesses no life, intelligence, nor creative power of his own, but reflects spiritually all that belongs to his Maker" (p. 475).
Such spiritual truths apply to all, and are able to overthrow any error that would claim to obscure our perfect, changeless, indestructible nature. The young woman proved this, and later found it very natural to share experiences of healing publicly. And soon her first testimony was published in the Christian Science periodicals!
