I would like to express deep and sincere appreciation to God for Christian Science, which reveals the ever-presence of the healing, sustaining Christ in our lives.

When I was just a young boy, my mother sent me one day to the Christian Science Sunday School in our neighborhood. A short time after that our family moved to a small town in Illinois. There wasn't a church nearby, but I never forgot what I had learned—that God is Love. That understanding saved me from a lot of trouble when I was growing up.

When I was about twenty, I was taken to a hospital doubled over in pain and unable to straighten up. Just prior to this, while attempting to help another member of my family, I had read this startling statement in Science and Health: "There is no disease" (p. 421). I had been very inspired. With this newfound knowledge, I was prepared for the doctor's prognosis when he said I needed an immediate operation for appendicitis. I rolled off the examining table and told him I was going to try something else. His response was that if I wasn't back in less than four hours, he would wash his hands of the whole matter. I told my mother, who was with me at the time, that I wanted to rely totally on Christian Science for my healing. We proceeded to call a practitioner to help us in this. She lovingly gave me treatment in Christian Science, and within two days I was able to stand upright without any pain, and even to mow the front lawn. I've never had that problem again.
