The closet of prayer—a spiritual storehouse
Why should we pray? How should we pray? How can we make our prayers more effective?
It may be helpful to recognize that while praying doesn't change God, it does awaken us to a clearer awareness of His presence and power—it helps us to know God. To know God is different from merely knowing about Him. Christ Jesus was able to heal instantaneously because his understanding of God wasn't limited to human knowledge. He was intimately acquainted with God as his Father, and he even stated that he was one with the Father. He said, "I am in the Father, and the Father in me" (John 14:11).
The Bible tells us about God. And Christian Science helps us understand God to be Life, Truth, Love, Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. These synonymous terms agree with the Biblical descriptions of His nature and character. But how do we get beyond having information about God to actually knowing Him? How do we gain a consistent understanding and love for this divine and infinite Being, for this omnipotent and omniscient creator, who is our Father-Mother?
