In 1972, having known of Christian Science for only a short time, I underwent a medical examination because of a persistent sore throat. The diagnosis was "rhagades on the vocal cords." A doctor told me he wanted to keep observing me because he was not sure whether the condition was congenital or not. He gave me some medication, which I did not take. Instead, I sought help in Christian Science and was healed.
Then in December 1990 I suddenly found myself with no voice to sing the solo in my church. I was filled with fear and anxiety because I was also to sing in a Christmas concert in ten days. I had to give my regrets to the choir members, the conductor, and the organizing committee.
I determined that the previous diagnosis had apparently never been erased from my thought. That is what concerned me. My son went to the doctor and came back with the prescribed medicine, and my daughter-in-law went to a herbal medicine shop and bought some other products. I remained firm in my decision not to take any medication, because I really wanted to have a healing through Christian Science.
