What happens "hereafter"
In the Sunday School of an orthodox Protestant church, I was taught that when you passed on, you went either to heaven or to hell, depending on whether you had lived a good or a bad life. There wasn't any in-between stage where you had a chance to make amends by reforming your thinking and your conduct to avoid eternal torment.
This theology is described comically (but I believe with serious implications) in an alleged versified tombstone epitaph:
