"The hungering need we all have"

A personal journey to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

I was searching for something that would unsnarl the problems in my heart, that would just comb things out and make sense. I was capable in my job and I had a professional position, but I really felt this overwhelming sense that everything was meaningless.

One day I was impelled to go into a bookstore, where there were a lot of "twelve-step" books and meditation guides. I purchased and read one that encouraged me to go to a twelve-step meeting of a certain group. Within a very short period of time I knew that the answer to every problem is spiritual. So I was willing to open the door to God working in my life.

I was first introduced to Christian Science and to Mary Baker Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by a friend who invited me to Christian Science church services. At that time, I was looking for an overriding spiritual principle, one place where I could get answers to all of life's problems. When I went to services with my friend, he would hand me copies of the Christian Science Sentinel magazine, for which I was very grateful. The Sentinels were wonderful because they included very personal accounts written in different styles. People were honestly expressing what was in their heart in different ways. They wrote about their problems and how they were healed. Often, they would mention the importance of Science and Health and the Bible to them.
