A practical book, a remarkable author

Many people are learning about Science and Health for the first time at public lectures being given at bookstores across the United States by members of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship. Recently, we asked one of the lecturers to share with Sentinel readers her perspectives on Science and Health and its author.

How would you explain the growing audience for Science and Health, and for other books on healing and spirituality?

There's such a need. It's that simple. People are crying out for answers in their lives. A recent New York Times article quoted an editor of a major publishing house as saying, "The world seems to be all shaken up for most people." He noted "a longing for truth" in the world. Just look in your local newspaper and you'll see how many groups and activities there are for all the different facets of one's life. Groups that deal with relationship problems. Groups dealing with medical challenges. Groups dealing with addiction and abuse. People are looking for answers, and there's a sense of the importance of spirituality. What else can resolve issues today? Is it good human advice that we need, or clear spiritual ideas based on spiritual laws?
