One day my daughter-in-law called me on the telephone, just...

One day my daughter-in-law called me on the telephone, just as my husband and I were about to leave for a shopping mall over an hour from our home. She asked me to baby-sit for her that evening. It seemed I would have time to return and go to her home when she wanted me, so I said yes.

My husband and I had planned to eat supper while at the mall. I just finished eating when a feeling of sickness came over me. I didn't know how I would be able even to leave the restaurant. My husband took me by the arm and guided me out to a secluded bench in the mall. He wanted to go get the car and take me home. I told him just to let me sit there.

After he left I closed my eyes and started to moan, "O God!" After I realized what I had said, these thoughts came to me: "God? God is good. He does not see me sick. Sickness is evil and God sees only good. If God does not see it, it cannot be real. If it is not real, what is real? That I am God's perfect image and reflection—that's real." I pondered the facts that God is omnipotence—all power, the only power; omnipresence—up, down, and all around; and omniscience—all knowledge. God is All-in-all. I repeated "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health (see p. 468), until the understanding was clear to me that I was not material, but spiritual. I silently prayed the Lord's Prayer. Then carefully I stood up and realized I was healed.
