New horizons, new views
When our elder son was getting ready to go to college, our family made a concerted effort to approach each decision and each step through prayer. It proved to be a fruitful time of opening thought to new horizons and fresh ideas.
This son was blessed with talents in many areas. He was an outstanding all-around student with particular ability in mathematics and art, and it seemed difficult to know which of several possible academic paths would be the best choice. There were a lot of questions: Should he go to a liberal arts college, an art school, or a university? Should he major in math or in art? What kind of career options would each course of study provide? What program would he enjoy most?
Words from a favorite poem—"'Feed My Sheep'" by Mary Baker Eddy (Poems, p. 14)—seemed so relevant at this time and were thought about often:
