Believing in Jesus Christ

It's not always considered fashionable or sophisticated to be a believer. Some people feel they can't even trust other people, let alone God or Jesus. A couple of days ago, for instance, I overheard a man talking about the bright-eyed young waitress at my favorite lunch spot. "You can tell she's new in town," he said, "because she still trusts everybody. But she'll learn. This is the city!"

Yet to trust in Christ Jesus, to "believe" in him, is the demand on Christians of all ages. The Master implored his first followers to believe in him. Why? Because through believing in him they'd do the "works" he did—making broken hearts and minds and bodies whole again. They would be saved and healed. They would know eternal life.

Believing in Jesus is more than just adoring his human personality. It's understanding and knowing Christ Jesus' real identity as the Son of God—and, by the same token, our real identity as sons and daughters of God, His spiritual likeness.
