The Christian Science Monitor has been honored with a special award for its contribution to geographic literacy. According to the National Council for Geographic Education, this is only the second time that the Committee on the Best Geographic Article in a Non-geographic Publication has made a special achievement award. Their awarding letter stated, "The Monitor is an excellent resource for geography teachers at all levels of instruction and deserves special recognition for its dedication to reporting world, human, and environmental issues."
