From the Rio conference held in Brazil last year, to the presidential election in the United States, to Captain Planet, a popular children's television cartoon in which kids dramatically confront and resolve challenges to the earth's biosphere, our world's environment is a vital issue these days.

Can prayer make a difference in finding equitable solutions and in meeting both the short-term and long-term obligations we each have to our world? Yes, it truly can, and on the following pages you'll read how people have been specifically praying about the environment and finding constructive answers.

Let the earth rejoice. International Earth Day for 1993 will be celebrated on April 22. And with this issue of the Sentinel we join with others in thinking together and praying and, yes, rejoicing. ... The Editors
